there you have the whole NL problem in a nutshell. Two of their senior people have resigned over points of principle, none have done so for making a major balls-up of the jobs - and that includes that waste of space Brown.
I don't think this is really true -

Michael Howard didn't resign over the Whitemoor and Parkhurst jail breaks
Jim Prior didn't resign when more than 30 IRA inmates escaped from the Maze prison.
Lamont didn't resign over Black Wednesday

According to an LSE study "Since 1906, more Conservative ministers have resigned for sexual or financial scandals than have Labour ministers. However, Labour and Conservative ministers have had similar resignation profiles for perceived ‘poor performance’ or ‘mistakes’ in office"

More Tories have been forced to resign after being caught with their trousers down or their fingers in the till - but that's hardly the whole story - Cecil Parkinson seems a fine example, forced to resign over a dispute about maintenance payments for the daughter he fathered with his secretary and has reportedly never seen or spoken to. What a fine example of fatherhood and family values.

Never understood why anyone would want to defend any politician?

There are a handful I truly believe are in it for principle, then a shedload more only in it for themselves. IMO.

These are not what I would call resignation issues.
There were a few NL cock ups that were beyond the control of the Minister too. It is the Ministers reaction to the cock up and subsequent policy decisions that matter. Obviously if these were direct results of Ministerial decisions then that would be a different matter.
None of these were about abuse of trust, power or office which a number of the NL ones have been.
Sex scandals should not be resignation issues, point and laugh maybe, but not resignation. Personal choices within the law should remain personal issues, unless are known as a strong advocate against said choices.
I am not qualified to give the above advice!

The Tories always aim to reduce taxes when they can and their record proves this.
Unfortunately New Lie's aim is always to increase taxes wherever it can, even in a boom period when it should be able to reduce taxes or at least put some money aside for times such as now.

But if Liebour reduce taxes, who's going to pay for Waynetta Slobs seventh sprog and the 6 bedroom council house to go with it?
