Perhaps that quote would be better reflected as:

The Tories always aim to reduce taxes compared to Labour levels of taxation when they can and their record proves this.
"I hope Celtic realise that, if their team is good enough, they will win. If they're not good enough, they'll not win - and they can't look at anybody else, whether it is referees or any other influence." - Walter Smith

On them! On them! They fail!

Peoplesoft bloke is desperatly clinging onto his "look at me I'm a socialist, dont I have a social conscience!" badge.

Thatcher began the process of discrediting socialism by revealing the incompetence of socialist institutions that led to the bale out of the UK economy by the IMF, the 3 day week and the denationalisation of industries that were supposed to be run for the benefit of the consumer, but instead were run for the benefit of those who controlled them.

The fundamental difference between Tories and Labour is in the underlying attitudes behind their ideologies. The Tories believe in self reliance, personal responsibility and individual freedom. labour believes in collectivism, collective responsibility and equality of everything.

The guilty middle class liked to pretend to be labour supporters as they felt that it gave them some sort of "badge of morality" because they presumed that socialism always helped the poor, which we all now know the opposite is true. The other reason why the middle classes like to align themselves against the Tories is good old envy and class war.. people with a chip on their shoulders.

The chickens have now come home to roost. New Labour developed as a way of adding competency to socialism which meant accepting the markets as a means of producing wealth from which (supposedly) the poor could be lifted out of their world of welfare and state dependency. NL has spectacularly failed to achieve this leaving diehard labour supporters to argue the toss over ministerial corruption (at least the Tories were brave enough to resign) and other side issues.

NL have even recklessly entered into a war, usually Tory territory.

The challenge facing the Tories is how to distribute personal responsibility, freedom and self reliance amongst the poor who are trapped in their lives of poverty by the socialist institutions that control the NHS, state education and welfare.

No I'm not - your posts (on politics) are characterised by mapping your world view onto other people so you make up what you think they have said.

I'm not a dyed in the wool slave to any political party - although arguably my views have moved less than the parties (on all sides) who have wriggled around to court votes (understandable).

well if my views are so mapped onto people then maybe you could proffer some sort of cohesive logical argument for once instead of reeling off cliche followed by insult.

You're always doing that DA. Is the biggest flaw in almost all of your debates. Even when you have a valid point, you spoil it by putting words in other peoples mouths and assuming you know the reasons behind their motives.

awww didums - I insulted the poor Tory boy did I? (can't see where)

You and I have had debates on this before in which you've conceded I provided factual backup. You're the one who keeps trotting out your mantra about the "guilty middle classes" - pot to kettle!
