We've had thick frost that persisted until the afternoon.

We've had the heating on overnight on a couple of nights. We've got a sleeping bag on the bed and hot water bottles in it.

I was shocked to see a car last week with a little hole scraped in the ice on the windscreen whizzing round the ring road with no sign of lane control at all.

We've had wind whistling through the letterbox.

We've had to run up the road collecting the recycling. (The neighbour's bag of plastic recycling from 2 weeks ago is in a tree at the far end of the street.)

Apparently Cumbria had some rain; ours hasn't been so bad but we had horizontal rain yesterday that soaked me and the inside of the car as I was reorganising the boot and pumping up a flat tyre.

Cold damp and dark this morning.

Not helped by spending two hours on the M1 after some numpties managed to engineer a 4 car pileup in the road works while under a 50 mph speed limit.

Every week when I put the bin out I forget about the puddle on the lid.

The bin is a pretty, charming, dark grey. And where someone has squashed the lid in, a puddle forms. Which you can't see. Until you tilt the bin to push it out the front, when the puddle runs across the lid and - by a piece of amazing engineering foresight, one quarter runs up your left sleeve, one quarter runs up your right sleeve and the remaining half of the water os poured onto your shins where it can run into your slippers.

But today, it didn't! No puddle!

Instead, the puddle-shaped piece of ice slid off and headed ankle-ward. But I managed to jump back in time, and have the puddle shatter at my feet so that pieces of ice went in my slippers instead.

                  Bloomin' cold
