well, I have a lot of loyalty to the place of my birth, but my number one loyalty is to my immediate family. So I have no compunction about putting one well before the other
So you are saying the Scots should really be grateful for being allowed to work in England and stop being whiny & resentful
ditto all the others
How fortunate for governments that the people they administer don't think
That's fine, you made a choice to put the welfare of your country way down your list of priorities. I did too. These are personal chocies.
But we then lose any right you have to take umbrage and get all Scottishly patriotic whenever there's a Scottish discussion. We certainly have no right to be anti-English, since they have ebenfitted us personally, not oppressed us. We have a duty of care to be cosmopolitan in outlook and cast the Scots in a better light than they get typically. And this means accepting their faults too.
I think you're speaking for yourself there big jimmy, in an ever so slightly patronisingly way I might add.
And no - I'm not anti-english in any way, even sport (Well apart from the English rugby team), and I see no problem with being proud of my identity - even if I don't live there. I have ceased to have a say in how it's run, but that's another story.

Well, try to ignore my style then, don't you agree that it's a bit petty to bite tha hand that's feeding you? It's hard not to become an apologist for some of the outright bigotry that comes out of some Scots.

I'm consulting for a non British service provider to a UK government department. Where's the 'English' hand here?
And all my flats are in Scotland. I'm on the electoral roll up there, pay my council tax up there and will pay the Local Income Tax when it comes in.

You could equally say that hand is the same one that offers a few scraps but stopped us dining at the main table. Generally most Scots would agree that Scotland was neglected economically due to being governed by London (Some English regions could equally claim the same thing).
Yes, proportionally we get subsidised more per head than England - if I was in Scotland I'd happily trade that in for independence and taking our chances doing it all our selves. There are many arguments about those subsidies, and what our outgoings would be with no military expenditure, oil revenues etc. Who really knows - Ireland did ok, but that took a long time. We might have missed that boat.
There's as much anti Scottish bigotry down here as anti-english up there, most of it is done in pure jest and there's no real malice behind it but some are serious (I've experienced plenty of that bile living in England, first hand so lets not pretend it's uniquely Scottish).
Most Scots I know will cheer on any team playing england, and sing the songs etc - equally most of those same guys don't mean anything by it and get on like a house on fire with english colleagues, and mates and generally that's as far as it goes. the knobs that take it further exist in equal numbers everywhere - including england.
