SHOCK NEWS: football supporters are vile people, especially when travelling in packs.
In other news, bears have been found to have defecatory practices associated with sylvan environments, and The Pope has admitted to "leanings" towards Catholicism.
If it sounds like that, then it's because it's mostly true.
There's always the pareto effect that you only hear the most vocal of the whiners, but whiners the Scots have become. Everything is someone else's fault, or the fault of things that happened hundreds of years ago. Anyone with any get up and go has got up and gone, and that's been going on for a century or more. This is why I think we have diluted the pool, the ones who are left have a higher proportion of nothings. Scotland is suffering talent anaemia.
Of course there are many Can Do people in Scotland, but because it's piss poor and has no industry to speak of, and Scots are generally more 'alpha' than some other races, in terms of self-improvement, business acumen, education and risk-taking, this means there's always a surplus of clever motivated brave people, many more than there are satisfying jobs to cater for them. Scotland's biggest exports for a hundred hears has been business leaders, engineers, scientists, the do-ers of the world.
I'm not ashamed of that. But it's a two edged sword. If we were really brave, we'd have stayed in Scotland and made it better, made it into the sort of place that keeps its talent. I'm part of that failure, so when I'm angry and disappointed in Scots and Scotland, a fair amount of it is directed at myself. Me, and people like me, have the power to make Scotland what it is, but that very pioneering spirit that takes us all over the world seems to fail us when it comes to making Scotland better.
Complete tulipe. The only thing I left for was the money. I miss Scotland to bits and when I'm settled and raising my kids, I want to be back up the road. Try taking a drive out the M74 some time and have a look at the other cities in Scotland.
Edinburghs second only to London for it's financial sector.
Dundee is renowned for it's technology sector and the banks are moving there as well.
Aberdeen has the oil industry.
Hell even Glasgow still has the Clyde shipyards.
Scotland's universities compare well to their English counterparts and you don't see them slagging off Standard Grades and Highers like they do GCSE's and A'Levels. Scotland's private schooling is some of the best in the world. Look at Gordonstoun, Dollar, Rannoch, Kilgraston, etc.
"I hope Celtic realise that, if their team is good enough, they will win. If they're not good enough, they'll not win - and they can't look at anybody else, whether it is referees or any other influence." - Walter Smith
Yeh, it touches a nerve with most expat Scots. You left Scotland for money. There's no point pretending you really love it and will go back someday and contribute. You sold it down the river for cash, as I did, as thousands of others do every year. It's uncomfortable, but denial is not healthy.

Which was exactly the point of my post. As a race, we're motivated, clever, educated and brave. And yet we burger off for the 30 pieces of silver instead of making Scotland the richest country on the planet like we should.

I left for money and cause the weather is so rubbish. The second one is nearly as important as the first for me. Many stayed, many very successful, clever people with lot's of gumption.
I think you're a bit too dismissive of those people who stayed, yeah there's a brain drain - blaming the inhabitants for that is slightly unfair - it's been happening for a long time as we've pretty much spent most of our modern day history being governed by a city a very long way away from Scotland who most certainly never had Scotland's best interests at heart. It took Ireland a few decades and lots of financial support from Europe to get to the postition it's in now.
Hang on - there is actually a place called Cheddar?? - cailin maith
Any forum is a collection of assorted weirdos, cranks and pervs - Board Game Geek
That will be a simply fab time to catch up for a beer. - Tay

And they filled a tiny number of jobs worthy of them, or else are working in jobs paying them much less than they are worth. That's the cost of staying. I did it myself for 3 years after I graduated, I hung on in there, hoping to get something decent. But it never happened.
I'm not blaming the inhabitants, they are what they are - the leftovers for the most part. yes that's unfair, like most sweeping generalisations. I'm blaming me, and people like me. For not being brave and entrepreneurial enough to stick it out. Tempted by the easy money of the south.

Maybe I should just point out that I meant within the UK.
