They did have a seige at their embassy in 1980. However, that was more of a domestic argument rather than against us.
How did this happen? Who's to blame? Well certainly there are those more responsible than others, and they will be held accountable, but again truth be told, if you're looking for the guilty, you need only look into a mirror.

Then they should have resolved it by drawing straws or something!

Yes, that seems like a valid point. The Japanese may have have enjoyed greater freedoms sooner as a consequence of being nuked (or being fire-bombed big-time) by the yanks, not least because it avoided a Soviet occupation. Moral dilemma time.

iran have said they intend to wipe israel of the face of teh earth, now as someone already tried to do this to them, i think its fair enough that they should take the threat seriously and get in first

israel from what i have seen does not go around the world looking for trouble, there are only a few million of them on a small piece of land, why cant they be left alone. the arab world is a pretty big place why dont all the palestinians go and live with their arab brothers and we can all have some peace

the jews have actually contributed and still contribute to society in meaningful ways, i struggle to say the same about the arab/muslim world

Not only that but a dozen times as many Japanese would have been killed, along with hundreds of thousands of allied troops, in an invasion of the Japanese mainland. General MacArthur reckoned over a million would have died.

Something you have to remember here. In a total war, and they are very few and far between, the entire economy is used as a weapon. Anything that supports the economy is a combatant and there are very few innocents around. Everyone becomes a target, so lets just hope the next one happens after we are long gone

Yeah I suppose we should get rid of Algebra, Arabic numerals, Medicine, Astronomy and leave it to the Arabs.

Peace? Do the Israeli's want peace? That could mean the end of the billions of military aid and billions of financial aid.

                  .
All of that was a few hundred years ago when the Muslim world was generally tolerant and forward thinking. See the connection?

And I wouldn't blame them at all for doing so - good luck to them if they do. Let's just hope that the Russians/Chinese don't take action against them. That really would be a slippery slope.

No they didn't - they said they wanted to wipe 'Zionism' [sic, literal translation] off the face of the Earth - that carries a very different connotation.
