I don't know about what's required for life, i.e. how many amino acids are needed to start a chain reaction, which is essentially what life is. Life is thought to have started very quickly here though, but had a hard time evolving from single celled organisms to multi-cellar ones. the latter happening only 500 million years ago IIRC. Perhaps one answer to the Fermi paradox is that advanced beings propagate by spreading their RNA/DNA seeds thoughout the universe. Being light and robust those things could move pretty damn quick.

And while I'm on about it, why is it everytime anything about religion or god is mentioned, some evangelical born-again atheist has to witter on about "imaginary friends"? You're as bad as those Christian types who say things "and that reminds me of what our Lord said".
I described Dawkins as a bit of a loon. Hardly "evangelical born-again atheist material".

          My quote
Worse even than being taught about the existence of supernatural beings, i.e. RE?
Is valid in the context of the discussion, and hardly evangelical born-again atheist material. It's not totally surprising that people could think the moon is an alien craft when they are taught superstition in school passed as fact. This is just common sense, not atheism. What I'm not saying is that superstition is necessarily a bad thing, any more than liking poetry or worshipping the Sun would be. I do think it is kind of weird that we are still in an age where people could still believe in, and are taught, to believe in superstitions though. Religion can of course be a source of great comfort and happiness to some people, but we should not close our minds to the reality of the situation, and that it is just a sophisticated superstition.

An education authority is investigating claims that two school pupils were punished for refusing to kneel down and pray to Allah during a religious education lesson.

Punished for not praying to Gods, welcome to the 21st century. Anyone up for a bit of howling at the moon?
