God botherers bore AND annoy me."Experience hath shewn, that even under the best forms of government those entrusted with power have, in time, and by slow operations, perverted it into tyranny. "

You've come right out the other side of the forest of irony and ended up in the desert of wrong.

I think Hawking is overrated and can't really be compared to some of the greats. Mind you Dawkins can be a bit of a loon too, but is also good in his field.Originally posted by Charles Foster Kane View PostHawking is far more clever, and he is sitting on the fence. So I think I'll side with Hawking on that one.Comment

Based on what? Hawking is the Lucasian Professor of Mathematics at Cambridge, the same post held by Newton, you think the Uni made a mistake and overrated him? Maybe you should become their recruitment consultant having concluded from his theorems and texts that he's overrated.Originally posted by TimberWolf View PostI think Hawking is overrated and can't really be compared to some of the greats. Hawking is trying to create a unified theory of everything to explain our universe, while Dawkings prattles on about the burden of evidence, while managing to sound like a camp 17th century ballet dancer.Comment

Hawking is famous for his work on black holes, a popular book about time and his disability, he can't be compared to the likes of Newton or Feynman and many others.Originally posted by Charles Foster Kane View PostBased on what? For example take a look at this annoying bad quote of his that you quote:
We are not an an advanced breed of monkeys nor do we understand the universe. Average is in the eye of the beholder, perhaps he means average size. It's just claptrap. We are just an advanced breed of monkeys on a minor planet of a very average star. But we can understand the Universe. That makes us something very special.Comment

Correct. We are an advanced species of ape.Originally posted by TimberWolf View PostWe are not an an advanced breed of monkeys
Maybe his predictive text thingy made it easier to phrase it his way?Comment

If I quote his quote does that make it my quote, if you quote my quote of his quote does that make it your quote. I referenced his quote, rather than quoting it.Originally posted by TimberWolf View PostHawking is famous for his work on black holes, a popular book about time and his disability, he can't be compared to the likes of Newton or Feynman and many others.

I've read several of his books, and they were great, although ABHOT was a bit heavy for the morning, but still enjoyable nonetheless. Everything is subjective, according to you no-one can use the word 'average', sorry there is no argument there, if you are 12 I apologise, in that instance it would be quite a good response, otherwise it's a fail I'm afraid.
You have your opinion, but we will have to agree to disagree, I recommend reading black holes and baby universes, it's a collection of his essays and a lot lighter than ABHOT.Comment

Well, humans and primates are likely to share a common ancestor, let's leave it at that.Originally posted by NickFitz View PostCorrect. We are an advanced species of ape.
