I've also noticed that C# ASP.NET developers earn a pittance compared with straight C# developers, so I advise unlearning ASP.NET if you want a rate rise.

I've got this theory.
years ago MSACCESS was taught in uni's as an exemplar so the students could get a project in. These guys left uni and a lot of them put ACCESS guru 5 years on their CV. Rates, and the reputation of the product fell like a stone.
The same is now happening with .Net. The good guys will survive, but for the average dude or new entry - forget it.

I've also noticed rates are down (compared year on year) on most skills.
http://www.itjobswatch.co.uk/contract.aspx
C# down 10%
XML down 8%
Crystal Report Writer down 68% to £200/day. Bad luck MF.Comment
