Summary:

Me: got kids - prospect of them being hit by speeding drivers worries me

Churchill: no kids (thankfully) - doesn't give a tulip. Going to be a migistrate so will naturally side with speeding drivers over kids' lives anyway. No brainer. Responsible for his own actions, but only when they affect just him. Anyone else and it's back to my original argument - shrug of the shoulders.

On the original topic of speeding and the NIP form - be very careful if you are not 100% honest. The last thing you would want is to turn a small fine and a few points into a "Perverting the course of justice" trial.

Oh - and spraying your number plates etc etc will get you to the same place too. The better half is a barrister and was 'enlightening' me to all this the other day.

So, I repeat, if someone doing 40 in a 30 zone killed your child, would you be saying speed may not have contributed to their death or would you have a lawyer on the case trying to get them sent down for eternity?

I think that you will find that most people who advocate driving a little bit faster only advocate it on roads like dual carriageways and motorways. I am quite confident that my driving ability is good enough for me to be able to drive down a motorway at 90MPH on a clear sunny day without endangering anybody, but I will never advocate steaming past a school at 40MPH.

You will find very few people who believe that they should be able to drive much faster in heavily built up areas, but you will find many who think that our speed limits are far too low on major roads like motorways and dual carriageways.
