Thanks atw, it's not often that you compliment me.
Unfortunately I can't reciprocate as your post is gloriously stupid.
Wrong, again. As usual you see what you want to see, not what it actually is: hippocrate : "a person who tells people not to do something, or that this it's is wrong, but this something, is something that he does or will do himself"

    This is different from Hippocrates.

You don't seem to mind "low level" manufacturing jobs to be outsourced, then you should not whine when your job is sent away too.

Myself I am actually too against outsources on fundamental grounds that such sharing of technology works to the disadvantage of the West, only old unprofitable tech can be shared in a safe way, and no shipments of advanced armaments.

keep digging, you're only making yourself sound more stupid.
As an exercise figure out why. I've given you a clue.

There is a fundamental disjoint between the aims of large corporations and the societies in which they originally had their roots.
To make things even more complicated, I agree that long term, spreading wealth round the world is a good thing. In the interim there will be a lot of pain and dislocation.
Oh dear SAS, I wouldnt have put you down as a parochial protectionist.

What goes round comes around, your whole hypothesis is based on an assumption that the world stays still and that we need to protect ourselves from change. It should occur to man of your eminence that in 20 years time our communities will themselves be offshore hot houses developing software for rich Indian and Chinese companies.

Don't be naive Dodgy. Rather than believe what you read in your right-wing propaganda sheets, read some history, ancient and modern.
In twenty years, we are likely to be even more chavvy with a larger proportion living off the state. There will be no skilled software developers left.

Hardly the OED is it? Do you use Snope as reference, by picking all the stories marked "false"?.

you mean to say there will be no spotty little contractors to rip off?
I can just feel "DodgyDelhi" contractor services lifting off soon

What do we want software developers for anyway (apart from for agents to make money out of)?

Software is crucial for all functions in a modern society - no modern cars, planes, defence systems without software .
If these skills are lost because studying computer science/engineering/ physics etc. doesn't lead to a career worth having then we will be dependent on the Chinese, Indians etc for our strategic systems including defence.

I am currently contracting to an Indian company who have an onshore\offshore model. Onshore consists of a largely Indian Test team and and a contracting dev team. Offshore is an Indian Dev team.

I have to say they are very good. I empathise with the person who mentioned meetings with 20+ faces of which only 1 or 2 say something though. They also seem to have a tendency to fib a little, possibly to save face - I have had many occasions where I am told something is done, only to find it isn't - I'm sure many people are guilty of that however and doubt its exclusive to Indian offshore teams.

But on the whole they are a competent bunch and curry nights are brill.
