They also have 20mph limits on school roads and are VERY strict about it. You can also not overtake a school bus if it is at a bus stop.

I was there for nearly 6 years and they have some laws that would work very well over here....IMO of course...

Thinking about it, Germany also has the problem of lots of tourists coming over and hammering down the autobahn's and killing themselves because they aren't good enough drivers.

Would be interesting to see some detailed road death statistics for UK and Germany that highlight which ones are natives and which ones are tourists.

I would like to see how they classify a "road death". There was a clip on Top Gear where they were trying to justify why a speed camera had been placed in a particular spot. Apparently there had been 3 deaths (or accidents) at that spot. If I recall, one was someone walking into the road, one was a crash and one was someone jumping off a bridge!! I just find it hard to justify a speed camera in those circumstances...

Frankly, for such a blatant disregard to the law and common sense I'd ban you for life, and few years in jail won't hurt you either.

I recall reading that the average speed on Autobahns is actually less than on UK motorways.

If you want fear and high speed, try Italian Autostrada. It seems they regard the limit (150kph ~ 94 mph) as the absolute minimum - and that stopping distances are measured in mm.

Look Alexi, the only way to squish squirrels it at high speed.

Be grateful we don't do it slow!

They have some strange ones as well, but they work.

However, the street I live on is a Spielstrasse which means that kids should be able to play on it with no fear as the speed limit is set to 'Schrittgeschwindigkeit' which is meant to be walking speed, approx 7 kmh, but the amount of buggers who do more than that including parents who actually live on the road is painful to watch. Also you can't use the road as a through road to get to the other side but people do. I like pulling out in front of them and then going really slow. Whooah, do they get annoyed. Sometimes I stop and pull them out of the car and shout at them...
