I don't think you can beat the Northern quarter is you want to chill out in a more relaxed atmsophere. Corbiares is worth a pint or two as well.
The court heard Darren Upton had written a letter to Judge Sally Cahill QC saying he wasn’t “a typical inmate of prison”.

But the judge said: “That simply demonstrates your arrogance continues. You are typical. Inmates of prison are people who are dishonest. You are a thoroughly dishonestly man motivated by your own selfish greed.”

that's not a bad idea aswell. The Hilton has Cloud 23 bar, 3 sides of glass look out from the 23rd floor of Hilton Deansgate, there's a glass elipse in the floor that looks straight down to the pavement 23 floors below..

full of smartly dressed blokes and girls on the pull and the music isnt bad at all..

Food - theres a new thai restaurant in the city center, Chaophraya. Food is excellent and probably worth booking a table as its very very popular.

          For saturday night:
West didsbury has some of the best restaurants in manchester. Take your pick there, just avoid the BIG curry house, the others, katmandu, the gurkha grill are spot on. Theres a couple of bistros 1 of which (Bistro 192) is fantastic, a kareoke thai restaurant (needs booking) a vegetarian restaurant and a couple of other places all within a 200 meter radius. There's some decent pubs there too... the woodstock, the metropolitain, the railway for the more bohemian atmosphere and 2 bars

          for posh drinking:

theres a bar halfway up the hilton hotel (beetham tower) on deansgate. High enough for some great views, cocktails are good and its pricey enough to keep the scum out.

living room, deansgate - again expensive and strict door policy and can get packed

panacea, just off deansgate - night club, full of footballer chasing totty and a very restrictive door policy. I've never had a problem getting in, dress code is very much dress to impress so be prepared.

          Further down the market:
Atlas bar on deansgate locks - big outside area if you're a smoker, semi live music (ie a bloke on a saxaphone playing along side the records) inside

Comedy club, deansgate locks - late show is a riot

          The rain bar
          The perivil of the peak
          and another pub
all close to deansgate locks on the other side of the bridge water hall. Semi decent boozers

Dukes 92 in castle field locks, bit more refined than some other bars but not up its own arse

          Places to avoid
most of the bars on peter street, full of proles, same with the printworks
          Coffee's for closers

I spent 4 years living off burton road by the old house at home pub
then 2 years living half way between the met and the woodstock!

Stay clear of Rock World, unless there is a gig or a session that you actually want to see. Used to be good but gone down hill and now full of teenage goths puking in the toilets.

Sounds like Deansgate is the place to be

I would definately be up for a northern meet, but not this weekend
