As for the 'grass' issue. anyone who defrauds the inland revenue is defrauding me, as my taxes will go up to pay for his shortfall.
You're living under a socialist government - your taxes will go up anyway.

IMO tax evasion under NL is a solemn duty and should be encouraged and applauded by all right-thinking people.

Anyone that does not indulge is a self-righteous prig and deserves a lifetime Labour party membership.

A guy did me over in a business deal a few years ago. It cost me a lot of money. Now it look pretty obvious he is committing some tax fraud and I'd like to make sure that the right people notice.

Ahh, right, so because my taxes are bound to go up by 5% over the next few years then it's OK for people to defraud the IR, causing them to go up by 10% instead?

Well, I might as well go out and steal an Aston Martin tonight, because someone else is going to steal one anyway......

No, tax avoidance is perfectly acceptable as no one is morally obliged to pay anymore tax than they are legally required to do. Tax evaision is illegal and comes with a custodial sentence.

The guy would have to have really done me over before I would think of shopping him though.

            Whoooooooosh!

I do know the difference between evasion and avoidance.

In my world I believe both should be encouraged.

If a lower tax take means fewer public servants and the death of a few chavs because there aren't enough hospital beds then I reckon it's a result with winners all round.

Do you honestly believe that if the government was getting less in tax because people were not paying they would just let it go and make people redundant?

Or do you think they might just put the tax rate up so that everyone get's hit a bit more?

Well done. You've clearly thought this one through.

I wish you luck in your crusade to improve the country.

Obviously they are just going to take as much as they think they can get away with regardless.

So, no, someone avoiding or evading tax will not cost you any more (and they may save a life in Iraq).
