I've been looking but found the site to be quite tedious to use and search - without joining I can't really see what the benefits are as certain things say you must be logged in - I think it could be sold much better if the site was redesigned and more accessible to non-members - keep the premium stuff locked away for members but at least tell the window shopper what it is.

That said I probably will join due to the legal advice I currently need - but even that isn't explained fully on the site to non members.

I would have left it there had you not accused me of being ignorant and prejudicial...

Where's the better place to get the insurance?

I was talking about PL & PI insurance, I found http://www.hiscox.com/ was the cheapest.
Science isn't about why, it's about why not. You ask: why is so much of our science dangerous? I say: why not marry safe science if you love it so much. In fact, why not invent a special safety door that won't hit you in the butt on the way out, because you are fired. - Cave Johnson

Just out of interest I got a quote from them just now. Came back as roughly double what I'm paying through RD for what appears to be the same cover, although if I was serious I'd check that more closely.

Two years back I did do it properly and the cheapest I got, properly compared, was about £15 a year less than my current policy, so hardly worth changing.

It's insurance, everyone is different, everyone gets different quotes - that's why it's always hard to make direct comparisons

Rates are published in tables by various providers, brokers, companies offering special deals to clients. PCG takes your money first, then shows you the 'discounted rates' which then look uncompetitive. It appears less than straightforward and there seem to be some PCG members miffed by it. It's not just the money, it detracts from the organistion's image.

No they don't, PCG don't do PI insurance. Given the wide range of risk profiles represented by their membership, it's highly doubtful they ever could.

Randall Dorling offer a discount to PCG members. If anyone is hiding how much that discount is from non-members, or what their premiums are, it's them, not the PCG. Moan all you like, but at least moan at the right people.

I think my membership is worthwhile on balance, even though there are things about it that I don't like. The good news is I may be wrong about the 2nd bit.
