Pardon the ignorance but what is a CIS type scheme?"Is someone you don't like allowed to say something you don't like? If that is the case then we have free speech."- Elon MuskComment

I agree, despite them claiming that you get discount rates as a member I found cheaper elsewhere and when I pointed this out I was told that PCG is not an insurance broker?? I know this but their claims of cheaper insurance are complete unfounded rubbish (IMHO).Originally posted by hugebrain
They are divisive and seem to operate scams, e.g. when I looked they offered discount insurance but you couldn't look at the details until after you paid.
I'm still a member though but only because I'm terrified of IR35, I'm sure this is the same for most members.
Oh and the site still has log in issues 4 months after complaining.Science isn't about why, it's about why not. You ask: why is so much of our science dangerous? I say: why not marry safe science if you love it so much. In fact, why not invent a special safety door that won't hit you in the butt on the way out, because you are fired. - Cave JohnsonComment

I have no axe to grind with the PCG, but it really doesnt seem to handle criticism very well. It lacks humour or humility and behaves like a religious sect rather than the customer service operation it should be. As soon as anyone dares to criticise it along come you lot armed with your righteous pomp and self importance which serves only to encourage more p*** taking and challenges to your integrity (justified or not). Dont take yourselves so seriously, just take what you do and your members seriously. Actions speak louder than words.Originally posted by LockhouseNot at all. What I'm saying is that if the PCG hadn't organised opposition to IR35 that would have only been the start of removing all contracting in this country. We'd have been subjected to a CIS type scheme quicker than you can say "Done & dusted".Let us not forget EU open doors immigration benefits IT contractors more than anyoneComment

What's a PCG?
£200 seems a bit steep for tax investigation / jury service insurance. And I can't see it offering meaningful protection anyway.Comment

The insurance thing p1ssed me off too. Either publish the figures openly before people join or shut up about them - it seems dishoenst. Still a member for the IR35 / S660 cover. I like the idea of limited free legal advice so that if I have a minori-sh query that i wouldn't want to go to a solicitor for.Originally posted by gingerjediI agree, despite them claiming that you get discount rates as a member I found cheaper elsewhere and when I pointed this out I was told that PCG is not an insurance broker?? I only used the service once. I needed some know-how about subcontracting. The guy who called me didn’t have any know-how. He was just advising common sense that I already had have. Not sure about other queries though.Comment

Maybe we should be. The CIS scheme has not stopped (sub)contracting in the construction industry. It has removed some cowboys who were giving it a bad name.Originally posted by LockhouseNot at all. "Removing all contracting" is a bollock. "If it wasn't for the PCG" is 2 of them.God made men. Sam Colt made them equal.Comment
