Wing Chun is the best unarmed style to learn, maximum damage with minimum movement. The Old Chinese martial arts put all the others to shame

One of my old spar mates has three olympic medals. and he was a very cool dude, never ever saw him annoyed at anything....ever.... except maybe closing time
Do I know you? I have a mate with the same background. You don't happen to work for a London radio station do you?

I wont spar unless it full on, obviously you don't turn it into a street brawl but there no point sparring if everything is pulled.

Which governing body did you learn taekwondo under?

And under which governing body did you compete?

I do Aikido myself once a week (which is not often enough) and I think its having a positive affect on my balance and coordination, and hopefully will help me disarm the odd wacko coming at me with a knife!
I like it cos it's defensive and does not involve much kicking as I'm a wee bit on the short side, although I'd agree with Ardesco that Wing Chun is probably the most lethal martial art...

I was thinking about starting martial arts training again for fitness and the other benefits (more fun than running on a treadmill), so does anyone do a particular form which they prefer? I was looking at Kung Fu or maybe Aikido or Judo.
Aiki-Jitsu...is that like aggressive knitting, but for beginners?

I used to do Aiki-Jitsu in the 1980s. It was quite rare then - only 3 clubs in this country. I was at Farnborough. Think the other were Havant and Portsmouth?

Anything that ends in Jitsu tends to be a bit rough. Although we had it alot easier than the Ju-Jitsu club down the road.

2nd Dan Yoshinkan Aikido Instructor. Started when I was 22 and been training for over 10 years, managing to hit 4-5 a week on average.

I did enroll at an evening class for karate a few years back and went to the wrong place where they were doing some sort of gay ballet.

Did they all have these coloured belts on?
