My facts are straight. Just because the poets like to dress up that times peoples greed and incompetence as somehow being someone else fault using flowery language doesn't hide it.Insanity: repeating the same actions, but expecting different results.

How the feck would you know, you come at this from a clearly anti-scottish perspective, and you claim to be the authority on why Scotland went for the act of union. Maybe the poets actually speak for the people, in an age when the people didn't have too much of a voice, and the rich Scottish lords who sold us out most definitely did.Originally posted by threadedMy facts are straight. I don't live in Scotland, so don't consider I have to much of a say in this any more, but if I was I'd say you can take your arrogance, assumptions and subsidies and shove em up yer arse.Hang on - there is actually a place called Cheddar?? - cailin maith

Aye, fight and you may die, run, and you'll live... at least for a while. And dying in your beds, many years from now, would you be willin' to trade ALL the days, from this day to that, for one chance, just one chance, to come back here and tell our enemies that they may take our lives, but they'll never take... OUR FREEDOM!Insanity: repeating the same actions, but expecting different results.

Snp
As a Scotsman who has prospered south of the border and would like to see if the home Scots think they can go it alone ? then I think if the people who live in Scotland want to be separate in total then they have to consider some realities.
For:
1) The oil will be good revenue for 30 more years
2) SNP idea of creating a OIL trust like Norway is refreshing
3) New boom with cuts in Corp tax
4) Stop Council Tax
5) Other countries like Norway and the Republic of Ireland are more successful and more dynamic. An independent Scotland will have the tools to match them ?
6) Whisky export revenue would stay in the Scottish economy
7) The Royal Bank is a very successful bank worldwide (SNP leader was an economist for the bank)
8) Revenue from natural resources would come back to the Scots parliament
9) The scots have had a different political agenda and needs for over 50 years
Against:
1) Higher taxation
2) A tax deficit of around £6b will need to be sought elsewhere
3) Council tax abolished and replaced by more income tax
4) what happens after the OIL runs out
5) Due to population ratios it is a fact that Scotland receives more subsidy than it gives on a 1 to 1 with oil versus rebates.
6) Have the SNP got all there economics right ?
7) There is a gap between public spending in Scotland (£40bn) and revenue raised there (£27bn). A Scottish government may have to choose between higher taxes and cuts in public services.
8)Are Scots confident that Alex Salmond can bring enough business into Scotland to achieve long term growth
9) The Union has worked for 300 years and
Also from an English point of view at least if Scotland did go it alone the English would not be hearing any more blame for causing its problems.
am sure there is more for and against....Last edited by Frus88ed; 27 April 2007, 16:39.Comment

Probably becuase its off their coast. In any case we'll fight them for it...of wait all the armed forces are controlled by the queen.Originally posted by wendigo100Why do Scots think that the oil belongs to them?
I've said it before and I'll say it again. If scotland were to go independant then the amount of money they would lose from Brown would be horrendous. Glasgow would be fecked as all the govt payment processing centres would come south of the border.
The countries are too involved to split.Comment
