Entirely of their own making? You don't think that the English trade blockade and seizure of Scottish shipping had something to do with it? Or indeed the naked bribery of the Scottish lords to vote for union, though that might well be condemned as a Scottish fault rather than an English one (when Burns wrote "such a parcel of rogues in a nation" he was referring to the Scots who sold out, not the English who bought them).

Oh, so their invasion of Spanish sovereign territory (who were English allies at the time), and aiding the French, (who the English were at war with then) was something that these colonists forgot to take into account? Notwithstanding that the original English investors had withdrawn after these points were made public, and before the Scots even got involved.

        I have, and that's bollocks.

        e.g.
XVI That, from and after the Union, the coin shall be of the same standard and value throughout the United Kingdom as now in England, and a Mint shall be continued in Scotland under the same rules as the Mint in England; and the present officers of the Mint continued, subject to such regulations and alterations as Her Majesty, her heirs or successors, or the Parliament of Great Britain, shall think fit.
which I think means you will accept my Scottish cash without complaint.

        Or
XVII That, from and after the Union, the same weights and measures shall be used throughout the United Kingdom as are now established in England, and standards of weights and measures shall be kept by those burghs in Scotland to whom the keeping the standards of weights and measures, now in use there, does of special right belong; all which standards shall be sent down to such respective burghs from the standards kept in the exchequer at Westminster, subject, nevertheless, to such regulations as the Parliament of Great Britain shall think fit.
which really just says that we both drink pints (aah, something in common!).

        or
XXII That, by virtue of this Treaty, of the Peers of Scotland at the time of the Union, sixteen shall be the number to sit and vote in the House of Lords, and fortyfive the number of the representatives of Scotland in the House of Commons of the Parliament of Great Britain;.....
which set the representation of Scotland in the British parliament rather low in proportion to population. I seem only to have heard complaints when it went the other way.

        etc etc
God made men. Sam Colt made them equal.

And a loaf of bread is the same size, i.e. food

Yeah, it's about food (and tax), which you'd expect to be people's main interests in an age when they hadn't discovered the housing market as an overriding obsession. It's not "can we have food?".

OK, if it keeps your little Scottish heart happy to think that the English didn't bail you out, yet again, then so be it.

Ah, good. Patronising, irrelevant, content-free. I'll take that as a polite closure then.

I do like to troll, and winding a Scot up with the Darien scheme is just too much fun.

                      definetly send them all back.
they come down here with their lovable-to-girlies accents.
They suck up to the English to get their money.

Neil Oliver (face of britain) is a prime example.
He gets a top TV job in London, then flagrantly boasts of his hatred for the English. He must be the 2nd most hated scotsman in England.
