Bottom line with the BNP for me is that no matter how they dress themselves up and try to put on an acceptable public face, essentially it's an organisation which judges people based on their color, race and religion.
The factors which drive people to them may well be valid (Debatable but I can understand it), and every country has it's right wing nationalistic extremists but for me they're in the same bracket as Islamic extremists, Christian fundamentalists, animal rights activists, socialist workers etc etc. Oxygen theives in other words.
People chat about leaving the country but the day they get in power I would honestly leave. But I got faith in the British public so no tickets booked yet.
well said snaw
Let us not forget EU open doors immigration benefits IT contractors more than anyone
I'm sure many people on here just like being controversial, I know I do!
Seriously, there is a orchestrated campaign by the more literate in the party to deny what they once were, I guess pretty much like labour did. The only difference being there aren't many socialists in the Labour party anymore, while there are plenty of bigots left in the BNP. Most people see it as the cynical electioneering ploy that it is.
The court heard Darren Upton had written a letter to Judge Sally Cahill QC saying he wasn’t “a typical inmate of prison”.
But the judge said: “That simply demonstrates your arrogance continues. You are typical. Inmates of prison are people who are dishonest. You are a thoroughly dishonestly man motivated by your own selfish greed.”
I fail to see how any rational person could think of voting for them. Yes they promise things that sound good, but so do DFS.
Has it occured to you that they might actualy deliver the good things you want?
The reason you "fail to see" is because you are wearing anti BNP blinkers.

Just look at their support base, largely uneducated, easily led, middle-aged bigots. Why would anyone want to align with them unless they were one too?
You see, there you go again with the inferences.
The media image of the BNP is the one you quote. The one we are supposed to believe and in fact, in a number of communities, the majority of supporters fit the image, but they are changing and with it their policies.
I know a number of BNP members (I am not one BTW) who do not fit your description, could it be that you are easily led (by the press and other political parties?).
BTW. The option was "Yes I probably will", not I am a raving fascist nazi bastard.
I am not qualified to give the above advice!

You can go by what you see, what you read, who you have met, and the only conclusion you can reasonably come to is they are supported by bigots and happy to be.
Moreover, What is the racial make-up of this non-racial driven organisation? I imagine they are canvasing very hard for those votes!
Nice policies or not, there is still an underlying unpleasant smell to them.

As opposed to Neu Laborazi who smell of roses ? Or any other party for that matter ? (Do the Greens smell of compost and manure ?)
I think you will find they all smell, once you unearth the rotten nature that is politics in general.
The only question is..
Which smell are you willing to endure the most ?
Of all tyrannies, a tyranny sincerely exercised for the good of its victims may be the most oppressive. It would be better to live under robber barons than under omnipotent moral busybodies. The robber baron's cruelty may sometimes sleep, his cupidity may at some point be satiated; but those who torment us for our own good will torment us without end for they do so with the approval of their own conscience.

Then why vote for a raving fascist nazi bastard? Nick Griffin's long-standing hatred of Jews (there may be other easier targets today but he'll come back to the Jews eventuall) is a matter of public record. Wikipedia is a reasonable starting point. Here's one of his little gems:
"I am well aware that the orthodox opinion is that six million Jews were gassed and cremated and turned into lampshades. Orthodox opinion also once held that the world is flat ... I have reached the conclusion that the 'extermination' tale is a mixture of Allied wartime propaganda, extremely profitable lie, and latter witch-hysteria."
I would seriously question the intentions of any political party leader who vehemently denies the Holocaust.
If you check your history what I am saying is what actually happens when things go wrong. So the governments decision to do effectively nothing to control immigration will lead to a nationalist backlash (as it is already doing).
if you are trying to split hairs over foreign ownership of UK assets then fine, but it is for the British people to decide who is allowed to enter our country, and unless the elected elite get it right (like everything else) then parties like BNP will become powerful as did the Nazis in the 1930s.
I'm not sure I disagree with anything you say there (I think) but what I am saying is that the tried and tested route of descending into facism is not the way to address the issue. You are right that these parties thrive on perceived, or real, failures of establishment parties to protect the good citizens' interests.
People seem to forget that this is happening everywhere in the developed world and every country has a reactionary reponse to some extent. I would question some of the factors behind it sometimes - a lot of it is to do with self-perception rather than absolute facts. Parties like the Flemish VB have electoral success that the BNP could only dream of with a voter base in one of the most prosperous regions in europe. Austria has their tosspots. Neither are the weimar republic by any stretch.
There is a strong case for introducing a controlled immigration policy if a country feels itself overstretched or just unwilling to accomodate foreigners en masse. Loads of places seem to do this quite well (points systems, lotteries etc)
Uncontrolled, illegal economic migration is a different matter altogether. While the quality of life on offer in other parts of the world remains as crap as it is, people will come to richland no matter what. It is simple human nature to want to do better for yourself if only to survive. Nick Griffin is not going to fix this any more than De Winter, Haider or indeed the Blairs of this world. But then again, taking some sort of wider global view on the problem is not likely to happen any time soon is it?
....
I never said I think the BNP is perfect, it isn't, but it is offering a more and more acceptable policies.
I suspect it will lose some of its more extreme policies if ever it gains any power.
It can offer more acceptable policies as a cover to obtain support and votes. A party which will probably never take power, can say whatever it likes. It could offer free candy floss to everyone if it liked. It can pretend using fancy words and fancy PR all approved by lawyers that it isn't what it is. A vehicle for hate.
Give me Tony, Gordon or David over these guys.
