I agree with you here (more than is my wont), but I wonder how it works the other way?

When I lived in Glasgow hoots mon och aye the noo (sorry, bit of cultural conditioning slipped out there) we called late-opening small family grocery shops "Paki shops": we held that it wasn't racist, because they were all run by Pakistanis, and we didn't mean the abbreviation in a derogatory way.

Of course we wouldn't do that now. But: round the corner from one place I lived was just such a shop, but run by an Irishman. We called it "the Irish Paki shop". Can we unpick the racist currents in that? Or was it just a good-humoured description that instantly carried its meaning?
God made men. Sam Colt made them equal.

My view is that racism and political correctness both come into play here. 'Paki' is not politically correct. I would only see it as racist if the intent behind it is racist. The former is about acceptability (by a section of society), the latter about intent. But I would also see the word Paki as in a different league for the word 'Jock', as it is linked strongly to the term (and practice of) 'Paki-bashing'. It can be Similar to 'queer' / 'queer-bashing'. It's a bit more complex now that the terms 'Paki' and 'Queer' have been reclaimed by the relevant groups.

Oh bloody hell. Political correctness. Another linguistic device to rid us of our civil liberties. An ideology synonymous with cultural marxism and used by the sneering sandal-wearing tarquins of this world to brand any remotely provocative, challenging, critical or dissenting voices as racist, homophobic, elitist etc...

It makes me sick, it really does.

                    Far Right food

Talking of the Far Right, imagine my surprise in the canteen today at seeing the following rice dish proudly chalked up on the menu:

                    "Nasi Goring Rice"
