The Global Innovation Index (GII) 2024, published by the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO), ranks 133 economies based on their innovation capabilities and performance. This year’s report highlights shifts in global innovation leadership, with a focus on emerging economies challenging traditional leaders.

To summarize the results of this year’s GII, we visualized each economy’s score using a global heatmap. Lower scores are shown as darker shades of blue, transitioning to green and then yellow as score increases.

Must admit I can't understand what this is trying to prove. It only covers the high level pillars in the article and then there is the way outsourcing works i.e. India. It does specifically mention

A key theme of this year’s GII is innovation overperformers, which are countries that perform above expectation relative to their level of development.

The top three in this regard are India, Moldova, and Vietnam. All three of these economies have overperformed over the past 14 years since 2011.

Vietnam is a surprise but then it isn't as the world will be looking for the next country on it's arse for cheap labour now India has probably overpriced itself.

I kinda like these top 10 type articles but this one just doesn't grab me at all for some reason. Anyone else?

Switzerland being top surprised me. Israel being 15th considering so much of their technology being in communications and computers being behind France seems odd.

As next offshoring to Vietnam and Moldova is interesting. The change in the leader board shows new countries moving up not just Europeans.

Vietnam (and Thailand) have already been well and truly found by the rest of the world in that regard. Since 2000, workers wages have increase 15x in China and that is before our relationship with China started to turn sour. Definitely South East Asia - Indonesia, Phillipines and Malaysia - will become major hubs of economic growth from raw materials and manpower to lower end manfacturing and even higher end stuff.
