Keir Starmer: I don’t want to raise income tax for top earners

Labour leader says ‘driving principle’ is to lower taxes and encourage economic growth if party wins next election

Sir Keir Starmer has said he does not want to increase income tax for top earnersif he wins the next election.

The Labour leader said he is “not looking to the lever of taxation” and will try to avoid imposing further tax increases beyond a list of smaller levies his party has already announced.

Labour has been accused of plotting a raft of tax raids on Britain’s wealthiest if it wins next year’s election, including increases in National Insurance and capital gains tax.

However, in an interview with The Telegraph, Sir Keir said his “driving principle” was to “lower taxes” and encourage economic growth.”

Gosh. Boring incompetent proposes another shift in policy to try and win election. We appear to be stuck with a party that can't do anything and a party that promises to do everything. Starmer has now just about reneged on everything he promised when he won his leadership election.

Anyone know what the Greens' policies are...?

Before he was making promises to his party to win them, but now that he’s got it he can make promises to rest of country - people who vote Labour will vote for him over current Tory Scum easily

Love this constant "Tory Scum" nonsense. Wait until the rules over strikes are repealed, the promises over taxation disappear and we start building closer ties to the sclerotic EU economy (prior to reapplying for membership). Then we'll see who the scum are.

The lack of rigorous thinking is driving the next election, nothing else.

Starmer will rejoin EU - Tory Scum never will, and yet it’s the cheapest way to boost trade and that can help cut taxes actually

nah his user name is aTw but I can see why you might be confused.

I can't understand why all these remoaners have wet dreams about rejoining the EU SUPERSTATE run by Germany & France I suppose they are the same sort of people who voted Hitler in?

If we attempt to rejoin then the EU will punish us for our disobedience they have made this much very clear.

Well when will Germany rejoin they seem to be doing worse than us?

What complete and utter bollocks; the only thing achieved by re-joining the EU is to turn the UK back into the second largest cash cow; you think taxes will come down, in your dreams.
