I suspect his perfect plan is to hang on to his seat and hope the Tories lose the next election. Then he'll have a campaign bus with '80 -> -10 seats' on the side of it.Originally posted by d000hg View PostI think he's going to have a real fight on his hand next election. I'm a little surprised he wants to hang around as a back-bencher.
I think the next election will be quite tight. Rishi's crew are targeting vote winning strategies and have an air of competence (compared to recent events). If they get the flights to Rwanda going, would Labour say they will stop them? But I discovered nothing else but depraved, excessive superstition. Pliny the youngerComment

Surely nobody wants to be in a losing government, especially when it's largely viewed to be their personal fault?Originally posted by Gibbon View Post

Perhaps he has ambitions to be leader again but it seems a little unlikely and I don't believe Boris to be stupid.
Although I suppose people like JRM are always in the news despite being back-benchers, and have considerable influence.

It would depend on how f*cked the economy was and what chickens are about to come home to roost...Originally posted by d000hg View PostSurely nobody wants to be in a losing government, especially when it's largely viewed to be their personal fault?

Yeah but as a back-bencher you'd still want to be in power, it's the cabinet who get all the blame.Originally posted by Zigenare View Post

Arguably, there is a real chance for the next government to actually preside over a period of growth and general improvement (even if mostly relative to the previous bad times). It is risky but ambitious people believe they can win.Originally posted by MaryPoppinsI'd still not breastfeed a naziOriginally posted by vetranUrine is quite nourishingComment
