I simple move out the way, when it's safe to do so. If someone wants to drive at 90 in lane 3, let them. It's far too dangerous and stupid for me to try to stop them.
Do try to keep up, I know its difficult it is in lane 2 as described, they want to undertake those in lane 3.

I have no problem with people doing 90 in the outside lane if they stay away from me, I just wish them a nice afterlife and think blimey they make warty and cockroaches look intelligent!

I didn't say you drove badly but it does seem obvious. Tailgating is very dangerous, any mitigation I take to reduce the risk of morons who think its sensible like you is advisable.

How is it obvious I drive badly?

I don't tailgate. I don't do road rage. I don't hog lanes. I drive on motorways with cruise control set. If I'm overtaking in lane 2 and someone is up my tailpipe but they could overtake in lane 3 ... but this never happens anyway ... anyone going fast will overtake you - this just sounds like one of your made up stories again to try to put some fact to your fiction.

You've admitted you drive badly, dangerously, and you're trying to deflect with name calling. Sorry big lad, but you've already shown that you are prepared to drive badly.

          yeah right

Tailgating, where a motorist follows too closely to the vehicle in front, is illegal and classed as a careless driving offence. It can land drivers with a fine of £100 and three penalty points on their licence.

However, the consequences can be more drastic if the tailgating results in a serious accident, including driving bans or even imprisonment.

The research found young drivers were twice as likely to tailgate than the average for all age groups, with 63 per cent of 18 to 24-year-olds admitting to doing so. This compares with just 19 per cent of those who are aged over 65.

Regionally, Londoners are by far the most likely to tailgate, with 57 per cent admitting to doing so and perhaps implying that it is more common in urban environments.
my experience is that feckwits with powerful cars they can't handle like you (though I suspect you find a fiat panda or 2CV more you can handle) are the most likely to tailgate. My mitigation is to slow down and control the situation to reduce risk, it must be really challenging because you need to get to your next perm & set quickly and safety isn't your top priority.

Personally I would make it 5 points and a £500 fine forintentional tailgating.

If anything you're increasing risk. What are your qualifications and what authorisation do you have to purposely control the flow of traffic?

I'll wait for the court transcript.

On the face of it, it does seem a bit odd. Especially the police being unable to determine if it was shared path or not. Weird.

Apparently, it was a retrial. https://www.thelawpages.com/court-ca...ey-36514-1.law But hey, they've listed the gender as male... and then refer to the perp as she.

I didn't make up the highway code.
Neither did I make up Roadcraft.

And it's 3 points and £100 for middle lane hogging.
As for your idea of slowing down, good for you, slow down and pull in to lane 1 until you need to overtake something again and it's safe to pull out.

Let me repeat - you are not the police. Your job is for you to drive safely and avoid being in an accident or causing one.

Driving at a steady speed is safe motorway driving. That's what the Highway code says.
Driving erratically, slowing down because someone is behind, then accelerating back up to your previous speed when they try to pass you is unsafe driving.

If someone is tailgating me I will increase the distance between myself and the car in front of me, if needed, to allow an initial light braking to get the tailgater to start braking without hitting me or I will pull over, if possible, to get the dangerous twat out of my danger zone.

If I am travelling at 70mph overtaking rows of slow moving lorries in the inside lane or the 2nd lane because they are playing leapfrog or if the inside lane is stationary at an exit and I pass at the sensible and legally mandated (by the signs) 40-50 mph and I get an idiot up my rear end pushing me closer to the car in front by sitting 3 foot from my bumper flashing their lights whilst cars are overtaking me at 90 push in front of me taking my stopping distance I am supposed to do what exactly?

I'm not a middle lane hog, there are always plenty of inner lane hogs to go around, I just want to get to 70 and travel safely.

I'm not the Police there are too few traffic officers nowadays and they do very little to stop tailgating as they are chasing worse crimes. Strangely I don't have accidents or speeding / driving offences, I'm the one who actually stops at the lights & roundabouts.

                      Not around me.

The newer shared paths make it very clear they are shared but there are parts of a couple where it is very confusing. I think they are shared but frequently see cyclists using the road.
