I think it's a "we haven't done a story slagging off H&M for a while, what shall we run today, and then we can complain tomorrow about how much publicity they keep chasing if they reply to us"

Either that or it's a "let's appease our readers with a distraction from the PM saying that having access to the EU is a great benefit to a part of the UK"

The other version of the headline could be "Single man who paid £12million to someone he definitely didn't have sex with complains about being moved into a 10 bedroom house just for him as it costs too much of his tax-payer funded benefits lifestyle"
…Maybe we ain’t that young anymore

One story I read said it was "given to them" but presumably that doesn't mean they own it - just free use of it.

And yes, the point is Andrew has to downsize into this 'cottage' because his pocket money has been cut by the king.

You know H&M live abroad and its sat empty? Worse case when the visit they can squeeze into Windsor Palace or similar if they visit.

Charley is shrinking the monarchy's bills, he knows the republicans will keep attacking them.

The Sovereign Grant can more than afford to pay for Andrew to Eff off to the South of France and live a life of luxury - Charles is slapping Andrew down now that he has the power - Andrew is an arrogant twat and needs keeping at a distance. He's bloody lucky he's not living in Tsarist Russia.

The scope of the Sovereign Grant is to pay the expenses necessary to undertake the role of Head of State.

This does not include payment to retired family members who undertake no duties on behalf of the Head of State.

The duties on behalf of the Head of State are what the Head of State says they are.
It would be a damn site easier to find a "role" for Andrew than to penalise him the way that the King is currently. Do I think King Charles can be a vindictive SoB? Oh yes.

The Head of State has decided to allocate no duties to certain individuals, who therefore are entitled to no funding from the Sovereign Grant.

The Sovereign Grant business accounts are audited by the National Audit Office and laid before Parliament. The National Audit Office may also undertake value for money reviews to scrutinise its use of public funds.

Why should anyone, simply by privilege of birth, have a role created for him or her?

Maybe such individuals could benefit from government initiatives to get older workers back into the workplace. Train as a bus driver, perhaps?
