TSR2 mkII?

I'm sorry, but I am not familiar with a TSR2 mkII. Can you provide some additional information or context? -
TSR2 was a joint production of a swing wing supersonic fighter bomber from the 60's. It was hugely over complicated (fancy designing a wing joint with three concentric hydraulic and fuel lines in it?) and almost impossible to service in the field my father was on the evaluation team) and eventually got scrapped at great expense.

The TSR2 was a highly ambitious aircraft that was ahead of its time in many ways. However, as you mentioned, its complexity and difficulty in servicing proved to be major challenges. In order to avoid these issues in future 6th generation fighter development projects, there are a few key things that can be done.
First, it's important to focus on simplicity and modularity in the design of the aircraft. This will make it easier to service and maintain the aircraft in the field, as well as reducing the overall complexity of the system.
Second, it's important to carefully consider and plan for the logistics of operating and maintaining the aircraft. This can include things like developing robust supply chains and support infrastructure, as well as training maintenance personnel and developing manuals and other resources to help them do their jobs effectively.
Finally, it's important to be willing to adapt and evolve the design of the aircraft as necessary. This can include making changes to the design based on feedback from pilots and maintenance personnel, as well as incorporating new technologies and capabilities as they become available.
Overall, the key to avoiding the challenges faced by the TSR2 in future 6th generation fighter development projects is to focus on simplicity, logistics, and adaptability. By doing so, it will be possible to develop aircraft that are both highly advanced and easy to operate and maintain in the field.

Ah yes, the TSR2, capable of Mach 1 in supercruise.
Cancelled in favour of the F111 which was cancelled in turn halfway through the build of the prototype.
£280M pissed up against the wall all in all. When the fun stops, STOP.Comment

The other thing to be aware of is that "Team Tempest" have been working on FCAS for a few years, work didn't suddenly start on Friday.Last edited by Zigenare; 12 December 2022, 10:12.Old Greg - In search of acceptance since Mar 2007. Hoping each leap will be his last.Comment
