IMHO, it would be better to raise tax rates than have this fiscal drag on personal allowances. This approach really impacts poorer folks.
NMW increase will mean some people now paying tax / employee NI who currently don't.

The 'New Tories' can't be winning many friends ...

As it stands, local authorities cannot raise council tax above 2.99%, plus a 1% levy for social care without a local referendum.

Hunt has allowed councils to increase council tax by 5% without a referendum. This money will go to local authorities, reducing the risk of councils needing to be bailed out.
Nope - it allows council to increase things by 5% but given that social care costs massive and prices there are going to be increasing by 12% that doesn't give councils enough to cover costs.

And remember it's Social Care costs that have driven Kent and other councils into immediate bankruptcy.

Because people a lot poorer than you, struggling to heat and feed themselves and/or their families will be less ****ed.

Asylum seekers who would otherwise be destitute are provided with free accommodation (with utility bills and council tax paid) and a weekly cash allowance to meet their other essential living needs (the legal test).

Just let the above sink in. We have people in the UK who can't afford the increase in their energy bills and certainly won't be able to afford their increased council tax.

              How is point 1 relevant?

Point 2. I am aware of this. Unfortunately, this is not a problem that appeared overnight. It is a cumulation of voting in the wrong direction for 12 years. The tories have ****ed the economy, and on balance, bar JH walking over to the other side of the HOC there is not much else he could have done. The can has been kicked down the road until 2027.

As I said in my original post. You are all ****ed.

There don't seem to be any spending cuts though? This Autumn Statement was sold on the basis that there would be circa £20 billion tax rises and £30 billion spending cuts.
