    DOOM: Turkeys

Why UK could be forced to make do with frozen turkey this Christmas

England is currently in the grip of 'the largest ever outbreak of bird flu' that is the equivalent of 'Covid for the poultry industry'

A menu of frozen turkey awaits Britons this Christmas amid a raging avian flu outbreak that will force all captive birds in England inside as part of a lockdown to tackle the disease.

England is currently in the grip of “the largest ever outbreak of bird flu”, according to health authorities, and from November 7 all non-wild birds will be subject to a nationwide housing order.

Rife infection and vast culls means turkey shortages are possible over the festive period and shoppers may struggle to find, have to pay more for, and settle for frozen when it comes to their Christmas bird.”

    It’s a bleak winter for turkeys…

      "Make do"?

We usually have frozen turkey, the fresh free range ridiculously expensive ones I've had were no great shakes.

      INKSPE etc....

They are also affected by avian flu restrictions. It is a REAL ball-ache for both commercial and domestic bird-keepers. Every single person who keeps a couple of hens in their garden has to comply with the regulations to keep them 'indoors' strictly segregated from wild birds. As for free-range commercial producers, well they have to stick all their happy outdoor birds in a warehouse over the whole winter where they will squabble and lose their free-range status.

Might push the boat out and go for a whole roasted cauliflower this year.

Bloody show off contractors, always showing off their wealth. A whole cauliflower ... some of us can hardly afford a floret!

Christmas turkey shortage warning as bird flu wipes out half of all Britain's free-range stock

Usual amount of free range birds grown for Christmas is up to 1.3m, but 600,000 have already been killed in the bird flu epidemic

I like they make it seem that the bird flu has killed 600K turkey's, when infact the farmers has killed the birds when one or two show symptoms and they test positive for the virus.
