      hey at least you can do > 9 plenty of legacy systems won't support more than 8.

        I think you're right, but that's rather worrying because it implies that they're storing the actual password rather than a hash (which would be fixed length regardless of the password).

        It makes sense to have some kind of limits on the data entry screen, but anything within reason should be fine (e.g. less than 1000 characters).

          seriously having worked for ISPs, small and big business this hardly scratches the surface of unprofessional!
