Sounds like they're going to U-turn on pretty much the whole thing, other than the worst parts

    Pathetic.

Better than not U-turning I suppose, for the country. Although perhaps sticking to their guns and a party revolt leading to a different leader would be preferable than a crippled PM/chancellor who has lost all credibility and party support.

That’s what happens when one u-turns on small tax impact of 45%

The rest just falls as dominos - should have rode it out instead

I still think Truss, and the Tories, should sacrifice Kwasi and bring back Rishi as Chancellor.

She could look strong, bring some stability in and confidence, and join together 2 sides of the Tory party.

May save her hide and help the country at least in the short term until Putin flattens us

You can’t ride it out when enough of your own MPs are willing to vote against your budget measures. The Tories are now ungovernable.

It seems unlikely but it might be a decent idea. Far too sensible. I wonder if he'd take the role, it would be a huge feather in his cap but then he'd be responsible for all the damage already done.

As heavily briefed during the leadership campaign, they absolutely detest each other. These are the dying days of a dying administration. There is nothing more they can do.

Should have called them bluff - and use very heavy measures available to any PM in order to bend them backwards

She has one “heavy” measure available, removing the whip. You can’t remove the whip from tens of MPs. That’s just another way of saying game over, which it is.

And watch the Gilts market collapse, bringing down many pensions (especially defined benefit / final salary ones), and the pound drop so low, that we import even higher inflation.
