A kilo of the cheapest rice costs about 40p and provides 1300 calories.

That leaves 50p for some vegetables.

    Carrots are only 4p each.
Its possible at 30p and practical at £1.

Last night it was chicken breast , new potatoes & butter beans < £1.

I hope you included the gas/electricity on a key meter to cook them.

Plus the bus fare to get them.

I'm only in the top 20% of Earnings I demand a Ferrari, a country estate and to eat at a Michelin starred restaurant every night. In a capitalist society you can enjoy the privileges you have earnt / acquired that is how it works.

We do indeed live in one of the wealthiest countries in the world. With free and fair at point of use healthcare, education, justice, supported housing , freedom of speech & expression. This is why rubber dinghys turn up at Dover filled with people fleeing the horror of living with the French.

People in our society even at the bottom are free to live a life most of the world can't even dream of, they are not just existing!

The veg was nuked so less than 5p, the breast pre cooked.

Its ~2 miles to the supermarket so a nice cycle ride or walk is free.

You had pre cooked chicken breast, enough for a meal, for less than a quid? Care to post a link to where you bought that because when I buy 2 pre cooked breasts (fnar fnar) even from tescos it's considerably more expensive than 2 quid.

No body needs to exist these days.

Minimum wage is now almost £10 per hour.

Thats £800 a week for a couple. Or £1000 a week if they do some overtime.

try Lidl/ALdi / Poundland / home bargains for cold its ~£2 a lb or Tesco/Sainsbury/ASDA hot counters its £50p a thigh. If you wait until they reduce them you can get them at 20p a thigh/drumstick.

8ozs of chicken breast is enough for most people.

ALDI sausage rolls at £85p for 8 are lovely. Plenty of other bargains out there.

By the way what do you think my Daughters at UNI spend per meal?

good point and the tax changes have meant far more goes to lower paid workers. As you say its £41,000-£52,000 a year with overtime.

We used to live very nicely on that.

Was Diesel £1.80 a litre? Did houses cost 10x median salary?

Hard to say without knowing how much is spent on drink and drugs which was about 80% of my income in my case.
