Vogue magazine threatens to sue a 200-year-old PUB in a tiny Cornish hamlet because they share the same name - claiming it could confuse readers
    • Conde Nast sent a 'cease and desist' letter to family-run pub, Star Inn at Vogue
    • Publicans Mark and Rachel Graham ordered to stop using homonymous name
    • Mr Graham, 60, has refused, saying he couldn't believe the magazine's request
I know they have to protect their name but that is a little silly.

Some large companies are silly e.g. https://www.manchestereveningnews.co...sbury-17622945

Surely they should be suing the parish council over the name of the place? How ridiculous.

Yes because the local off-license and Sainsburys/Morrisons can easily be confused with each other.

I never knew that local off-licence existed until Sainsburys send the "cease and desist" letter and it was all over the media.

Likewise I didn't know the Star Inn at Vogue existed and there was a place called Vogue.....

AIUI if they find an organisation with a similar name they have to challenge it. Now if they had written a nice letter saying that the Vogue part can't be used on its own for a business and definitely not in Publishing (what the law says) then set up an event there it would have been seen as a sensible reply to the situation.

Nothing about the website, prices, meat draw or Judy's Karaoke sounds poncy to me.

Agreed - The website looks like it was optimised for Netscape Navigator.

I retract my poorly researched off the cuff remarks.
