    DOOM: Sunak

"Sunak cleared in investigation into family’s tax affairs

Boris Johnson’s ministerial adviser concludes chancellor did not breach ministerial code over wife’s tax status

Rishi Sunak has been cleared of breaching the ministerial code over his wife’s tax affairs, in a report by the cabinet’s ethics adviser, Lord Geidt.

The chancellor asked the adviser on ministerial interests to look into his case amid accusations he had failed to be transparent about the non-domicile tax status of his wife, Akshata Murty, which meant she did not legally have to pay UK tax on her foreign earnings. She has since said she will voluntarily pay the tax."

I was hoping HMRC were going to revoke her non dom status because she clearly has no intention of leaving the UK, then put a lien on their house and bank accounts for back tax and penalties or is that only little people?

How do you know? If Rishi were forced to resign how do you know they wouldn't leave the UK? At the moment I think she can quite realistically say there's a fair chance of that although the irony is that situation is partly because of her non-dom status in the first place

My HMRC style expertise at identifying Ducks. Which is why I suggested the Non Dom laws need changing to be more objective just like IR35.

Sajid Javid has got off lightly in this whole debacle...
Born in the UK but declared himself non-dom for years while working in banking. Also paid himself via a tax haven offshore trust - even while he worked at the treasury.

yep it needs fixing. Why didn't BOJO write a strong column in the paper? Why doesn't Kier campaign against it?
