You saved £250? How much were you paying? We're paying £29 currently and deciding whether it's worth £4 a month saving to switch to Sky. The clincher probably being if we move to a non-Sky area, we're liable for the remainder of the contract. Which isn't worth the £48 annual saving.
His heart is in the right place - shame we can't say the same about his brain...

~£5 / month = 2 year contract. That was on my unlimited calls, unlimited broadband deal which was about to expire. If I had let it expire it would have been £15 a month more.

That's as maybe, but you never let a deal roll on to standard terms - that's like letting a mortgage go onto the SVR at double the rate (or more).
I find myself swapping between Sky and BT every 2 years to get the introductory deals. For some reason they will never match that deal for existing users, even when you get through to the retention specialists that usually try to keep you sweet. It has always been a particular pet peeve of mine that existing customers get treated worse than new ones, but I no longer spend any energy on complaining about it.
I'm stuck out of a good BB deal waiting for a F2TP install... running late as they haven't reached my location yet but I can't take out a new deal or I'll end up paying off 11 months of the contract.
Hopefully it'll be worth it... 1Gb up/down rather than 35Mb/8Mb

Which provider? We're semi rural and BT is showing us as in the plans, some time before 2026 so not holding my breath. Some enteprising locals paid for it to be run up a lane to a group of house about a mile from here, and then BT started offering it to some houses along the route - but unfortuantely not us.
