So she has a doctorate in a relevant discipline and has been hired by one of the most prestigious universities in the world to do research into Covid.

The experts on here whose specialist knowledge is limited to jazz mags obviously would mock her!

It's not really relevant if people here agree with her, but what those more expert in her field think. Does her view represent the scientific consensus or is she a lone voice - if the latter than by comparison she IS rather junior. You can nearly always find at least one person with a radically different view - physics is full of quite well qualified 'crazies' with outlandish ideas for instance.

Please. It is barely relevant and she is a trainee scientist. The conspiracy theorists absolutely live on this sort of crap - opinions spouted by trainee scientists with irrelevant or barely connected qualifications. Being a scientist, but especially a postdoc, doesn't make you an expert on science in general - postdocs have all sorts of battulip crazy ideas and opinions, just like the rest of the population

This. There is a cross-section of the general public that really struggles with scientific opinion because they simply don't understand how science works or what qualifies someone to be a genuine expert on something.

            ^^^^

            This.

Anybody will less than 50k posts on CUK can't possibly be a genuine expert on anything.

                She isn't a Professor?

Why is he quoting her then?

Even some professors are crazies which I've been kindly informed by friends and acquaintances who had to work under them.

                  https://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/202...k-emails-show/

Wuhan scientists were studying viral samples of high-risk bat species living in Laos - the country where the closest relative to Covid-19 has been found, leaked documents show. ...
The covid virus lookalikes were found in Laos in nature yet the outbreak was in Wuhan near a laboratory that research covid strains and seemed to have some interesting cover ups . Being 1600km away and no trail of infected bats between the two locations was found. You can see why the public are suspicious as most deniers basically say "don't upset the Chinese they own us".

This "amateur non expert" seems to be briefing Parliament, so I suppose she is on par with Chris Whitty?

You realise "science works" by proposing a hypotheses that fits the facts and with the rest of the community trying to prove or disprove it.

So do try to disprove this theory.

Sir Richard Dearlove is basically on GBnews saying that it smells fishy. Is he an amateur in international deceit as well?

I'm aware of the stories, vetran, thanks. I'm merely saying that you don't have a scooby-doo about how science works, that's all, so it means you can't easily distinguish between solid opinions and battwuntish opinions, it's mostly all the same to you - "some scientist said XYZ and I like the idea that they're right".
