    Mercedes End Sponsorship

Any other title I thought of was distasteful.

Anyway Mercedes have ended their sponsorship deal with Kingspan.

I never understood why they would sponsor anything car or racing related in case of fires.

Mercedes have ended their sponsorship with Kingspan following outcry over the deal from Grenfell Tower survivors and families of the victims.

The championship leaders sparked controversy in announcing the partnership ahead of last weekend’s Saudi Arabian Grand Prix.

Pressure group Grenfell United reacted angrily to the announcement, claiming that with the partnership they were “directly involved in this system which puts profit before human life”.

And Mercedes bowed to that pressure on Wednesday to end their involvement with Kingspan with immediate effect.

In a statement, the team said: “The Mercedes-AMG Petronas F1 Team and Kingspan today announced that they have mutually agreed to end their partnership.”

Always makes me wonder if the PR department and the 'getting in the sponsorship' department ever talk to each other. I suppose many people don't know the name of the company that supplied the cladding so they hoped no-one would notice?

Good these organisations need this sort of push so they realise selling dangerous products is bad for business.

      https://www.insidehousing.co.uk/news...15-years-68461

Kingspan last week wrote to the Building Research Establishment (BRE), which carried out testing on its Kooltherm K15 product, to withdraw test reports it has used in its marketing since 2005.

The revelation, which came at the beginning of this morning’s Grenfell Tower Inquiry session, was because the test “was not representative of the K15 product which has been sold by them from 2006 onwards”.

Lawyers for bereaved families and survivors of the fire later said that the firm had changed the composition of the product in 2006, and that the new product had “a poor performance in fire”.

When the new product was retested in 2007 the test was described in internal Kingspan documents as “a raging inferno”, the inquiry heard.

I certainly didn't. My only knowledge of Kingspan is that they're such a dominant player in the insulation market they are talked about as a generic product in the same way as Hoover.

All this has actually achieved is that everyone now knows the name Kingspan. In PR terms, it's backfired massively on both Kingspan and Mercedes. Credit to Lewis for raising this, I doubt Mercedes would have ditched their sponsorship deal without his intervention.

They may have got away with it if Hamilton wasn't racing for Mercedes.

Not really. He actually tries to do stuff to effect change rather than whinging about it. Far more respect for LH than the Woke Brigade, I don't agree with all his views but that's immaterial. He understands the position he's in and the responsibility that comes with it.

I remember he spoke about this, wasn't it partly about UK tax law being extremely punitive for someone who spends so much time outside the UK? Double taxation and stuff... I may be mixing him up with someone else.
