I never did a computer type degree because somehow it came easy to me, that's why I did different stuff like Classics up to MA.
Not really. I didn't know your background but I've had endless discussions with people on the OU vs Normal degrees and often the people that did the standard route don't understand OU, why people do it and the like. Sounds like we are on the same page so just making the point to other reading this that aren't. I still think professionals helping each other with course work is a world away from cheating. I am sure the same goes on in normal degrees but I had to compare a bunch of older professionals giving up their spare time for 6 years to do and OU degree and bunch of youngsters going to uni because they think they have to I know where I'd be focussing on if cheating was an issue.

It's a weird/interesting topic as of all the different convo's I've had on OU vs Uni cheating never actually came up.

I know I'll be pleased when my OU degree finally draws to a close! Is there anything lower than a third class degree? I reckon on I'm on course for one of them

There is a very grey line between helping understand concepts and helping with a marked assignment. Being too helpful can be an offence. Best to avoid explaining stuff and point to where and what helped you. That was what was drilled into my cohort.

Plagiarism | Student Policies and Regulations | The Open University

        Plagiarism

This policy defines ‘plagiarism’ and highlights how to avoid academic misconduct.

If a student submits an assignment that contains work that is not their own, without indicating this to the marker (acknowledging your sources), they are committing ‘plagiarism’ and this is an offence.

Submitting work that has been done by someone else and persistent borrowing of other people’s work without citation are obvious instances of plagiarism and are regarded as cheating. Copying answers from social networking sites is cheating. Paying for work from other sources and submitting it as your own is also cheating. It is intellectually dishonest to cheat and thus give one student an unfair advantage over others.

Passing on an assignment to others, with the knowledge that another student may plagiarise the assignment will also lead to a penalty.

The policy includes a description of the use of text comparison software by the University.

Go start your own OU thread. Go on, shoo. This is about the next generation not the past-it generation... won't someone think of the children?!

Maybe more of them (the Children) should consider it, I mean to travel away to be near uni and then have virtually no face-to-face time they might as well at considerably less cost. And the OU are Masters at remote learning.

To be fair the youngsters who were at university and start university in the last couple of years didn't realise they would be stuck doing remote learning so wouldn't develop personally.

Also the OU is getting more young people taking up their degrees. However it is a completely different experience doing a remote degree compared to a more traditional set up.

Maybe lots of young people will decide not to both with uni at all, which could be of benefit. Although the drinking and partying and shagging part is back on even if it's remote learning. Although the drinking and partying and shagging part never really went away anyway even during lockdown(s), at least not in Durham.

She is. Currently pondering doing her dissertation on the parallels between Boris Johnsons rise to power and that of Pericles et al in the ancient world. Seriously, if you know anything about it it's creepy stuff.
