Exactly, and the evidence (to date) is that this (deaths) is not happening at a level that is causing anyone to really care. People want to go on their holidays again; as long as it is someone else's loved one that is dying thats ok, and with that happening in lower numbers, the voices of those who feel that pain is lost in the "woohoo, we're off to Benidorm" facebook posts.

Agreed, but until it does, this is the path we're on.

Virus won't become less transmissible, either dies down or becomes more transmissible.

It's got a lot of room to become more deadly as the result of that - SARSv1 and MERS were like 40% deadly and VERY transmissible also.

All that needs to happen now is 10x mortality, which won't stop virus from spreading since it's 2x on original already very effective virus.
Which *could* happen if you let this virus run free. Then it was all hancocks fault and, oh, look, he's already gone.

I'm not agreeing this is the right approach, but it's clearly whats happening.

It is what they had in mind for a long time and if you look at what new cretin secretary says he fully signed up for that, nice price of getting back into Govt - back the policy that will get 100k more dead.

The Treasury is on board since it will save lots of money on future pensions, they'll literally make a killing on it.

Case count is old news. It's all about the deaths now.

But your comment wasn't an argument. It was anecdotal evidence (at best) as you overheard a low level person make what was presumably a personal view. If they are low level, do you really think they will have such information?

I'm not saying we may not have another lockdown ... but your evidence is pretty weak at best

                  This isn't about science:

                  https://commonslibrary.parliament.uk...ings/cbp-8866/

                  Economic impact to date

The magnitude of the recession caused by the pandemic is unprecedented in modern times. GDP declined by 9.8% in 2020, the steepest drop since consistent records began in 1948 and the most in over three hundred years on some estimates.
This report came out on 1st of June - now Hancock is gone and the message is "see no reason to go beyond" that "target date".

Any word from Chris Witty or anyone else with some science we should listen to?

They (and every terrorist out there) might just do that because a virus with fairly low lethality did more damage to the West than 1000 Bin Ladens, where as China kept population safe with decisive measures even without vaccine.

It's certainly the best way for alien invaders to exterminate human kind too, at least outside of China.
