We are all 'given' free education up to the age of 18 - do you not value educating your kids or do you think only those who can afford to send their kids to private school value education?

Everyone should be 'given' the opportunity to succeed in this country, not just those who's parents have deep pockets or good connections. Education and opportunities need to be leveled up. 'Give' those in the poorer areas of our society something to aim for. 'Give' them hopes and aspirations.

This can only be done by education. Kids in these poor areas need to know that they have a chance to do better for themselves. They need to know that being an accountant, lawyer, VB4 programmer, are all careers they can aspire to. They need to be learn on the value of the education and the future earnings/lifestyle that could come from that.

I speak from experience. I grew up on one of these sink estates in the Midlands. Out of 330 kids in my year less than 10 of us ended up with degrees. I was in the top class, yet friends of mine in that class 35 years later have not reached anywhere near their potential. This is not because they couldn't, or I was better, it's because they didn't know what opportunities were out there. I got to where I am due to pure luck. But luck shouldn't come into it - kids from well off families are 'given' opportunities that poorer families just don't have access to.

So 'give' doesn't mean handouts. It doesn't mean 'giving' someone a few hundred quid each week. I hope you can understand that?

No education is supplied as part of the social contract. It has strings attached, many of us will pay towards it if we succeed.

So you are saying that though your peers were supplied with a level of education that allowed you to become a top 10% earner only 3% of you peers succeeded? So what more do we do to turn the tide? Maybe hire better career advisers or make schools responsible for their pupil's achievements maybe though league tables and rebooting schools with academies?

I of course attended Cheltenham's ladies college then Eton and on to Oxbridge. Pater spent a fortune and off to Cannes or Barbados on hols.

I didn't really attend a bog standard comprehensive and then a technical college (back before they all became universities) I did an apprenticeship earning a pittance. The job I do now didn't exist when I was in college.

One thing I did have was I knew I didn't want to clean toilets so I applied myself at work & college.

Quite a few of my cohort were headed for prison or low paying jobs. They had the same opportunities as me, in fact probably more.

Until we get robots to do every manual task then we still need cleaners an hairdressers not everyone needs a first from Oxford or becomes a brain surgeon.

Hey I have the invoices and more importantly the cash. I didn't charge it very often but when one particular client (ex employer) wanted to sub work out they couldn't do using my specialist skill I developed I filled my boots like a good contractor Hating the new MD helped me set the rate.

I did actually charge £225 an hour once (the same client) but they happily signed the cheque it was only a few million pound contract.

Oh I was "Charged out" at a lot more than that. The mark up on my £600 was obscene. I only count what ended up in my bank!

Poverty is nowhere near abolished. Wouldn't be having old diseases cropping up caused through malnutrition if it was.

Now that is a terrible experience more should be done to support people in such situations. Why was your UC grant so low why do you not have sufficient savings to be ineligible?

TB has a vaccine available for free in the UK. Its not here because of poverty but migration.

The UK ranks 78th out of 99 countries included in WHO worldwide TB mortality figures. It is also 22nd of the 33 European countries included on that list.

However, this does not tell the whole story given that TB mortality is higher in urban areas, particularly London. In particular, multidrug-resistant TB is more common in London, which is likely to be due in large part to immigration from Eastern Europe.

According to Public Health England, the UK has the second highest mortality from TB in Western Europe. This mortality is also 5 times higher than in the US. The incidence of TB in some parts of east London is comparable to that in India.

Rickets is a lack of Vitamin D mainly available from sunlit - I would suggest Fortnite/call of duty would be a more likely cause than poverty.

Of course we could give people a vitamin tablet they are £2 for 3 months supply. We do fortify flour & bread with vitamin D. Maybe we need to extend that to rice and specialist flour.

Warchest ran out just before I went into Hopsital. Because I was "High risk" through previous cancer treatment I didn't actually work during the first lockdown onwards, last "shift" I did was sometime in early May last year. Family wanted me safe, you have to listen sometimes.

By the time debts were paid off, and I had sorted out the ballsup (I know, I shouldn't have trusted them) that my so called accountants had made of my business there wasn't much left.

Hence I finished up on UC. That was for myself, my wife. And when you are used to earning that amount per day, a month with just that is a bit of a shock I can tell you. Because you live to your means don't you?
