And unlikely you will have a choice anyway, most certainly you'll get AZ stuff.

My father needed the AZ one because of the risk of allergic reaction to the Pfizer one, and it was a right palaver before he was finally able to get to a place that had it. He could have been done two to three weeks earlier if he could have had the Pfizer one.

That may just be the case in Bedfordshire, but the impression given by his GP and by the NHS enquiry lines was that they currently have loads of Pfizer but smaller supplies of AZ.

It doesn't help that nobody seems to know where AZ might be available on any given day either.

Unless you're going to a uni or other facility that has the appropriate fridges, in which case you'll probably get Pfizer.

But probably AZ, as you say - there's more of them and they're easier to store.

They have the relevant fridges all over the place now, and it doesn't need to be kept at -70°C right up until the moment of injection. My mother received the Pfizer one in the hall adjoining the Sikh Gurdwara in Bedford.

One thing to watch with the AZ one is the potential for a splitting headache that comes on within an hour of the jab and lasts for 5 or 6 hours. A number of people close to me who have had the AZ vacc have reported this.

Might want to have have some strong painkillers handy for example 8/500 cocodamol (over the counter) or stronger (not much available over the counter). Standard paracetamol is apparently useless at shifting this bad boy.
I will have my already prescribed tramadol handy!

Interesting. I have family in Bedford too. My mother was due to get vaccinated last week but had to get it in Stevenage. I'll ask her what she got... Interesting regarding the fridges too. Locally to me, they are doing Pfizer from the university and AZ everywhere else from what I can make out from the people I know that have received it already - hence my biased impression, I guess.

Non-issue for a migraine sufferer

From what I've heard, the second dose is worse w/r to side-effects, but still minor in the scheme of things (you have to hang around 15 mins for signs of an allergic reaction).

I agree about the migraine specific stuff. One consultant has prescribed Topirimate - the big one for treating migraines. Absolutely useless. I have a constant supply of cocodamol 30/500, Gabapentin and a supply of Tramadol - these are much more useful

Ha, same here - never worked for me either! To the point where I don't bother with anything now, other than a dark room and some ice. I found I was getting secondary headaches from OTC painkillers.
