Turn up in a suit and you get away with anything
At the end of the day I like to convey a positive image regarding MyCo - I cant do that if I turn up in torn jeans and trainers.

When I worked in the States (as a permie) - I always turned up at the clients site in a shirt and tie. Not a suit but smart. The VP of Ops had a thing against this and complained that I wore a tie - the jerk even made a point of mentioning it to me in front of everyone in a meeting. I told him that in a country of "free speech" I should be alllowed to express myself in my own way and that unless he could find a clause in the constitution disallowing it I would continue to wear it. He shut after that!

Admittedly I had to ensure I kept my ducks in a row after that encounter but it was near the end of the project anyway!!

Everyday is 'business casual' in here, which pretty much means anything goes for women folk, blokes range from shirt and pants downwards.
I wear a shirt and tie every day (except casual friday), I prefer this as it takes LESS effort in the morning to get dressed.
I have had a number of comments about this but I couldn't care less and I have no doubt it helps me establish authority when I meet new people and attend meetings where I am invariably the smartest there.
Pure techies - feel free to perpetuate the iron maiden T, beer gut and cheap old jeans look, just keep banging the keys.

                Funny then that no-one noticed.

                Hard Brexit now!

When I meet new people who are overly smart for the environment I assume they are incompetent and have to do something to make up for it. Right every time so far, perhaps we have met?
