    Travel Advice

    For the first time in my life, I need travel advice... for driving out of Calais.

    Has anyone been recently and is there still issues with migrants? I am going with a car and roof rack full of valuable gear. If there are still problems I will have go via the Hook of Holland or even Le Havre.

    I believe they tend to focus more on cars trying to get to UK rather than leaving Calais
    How fortunate for governments that the people they administer don't think

      Took this a few weeks ago when driving through the port...

      On a more serious note, it's amazing how UK MSM has managed to paint their picture of life across the channel that you've got questions like this.

        Are you going via the tunnel or the port?

        What direction are you heading in from there?

        A few years ago I was making the journey regularly (when the refugees used to get mentions in the Daily Mail every day). I saw a few migrants at the side of the autoroute near the tunnel - maybe 3 or 4 each journey, but generally the police moved them on.
        They were not interested in cars and not interested in anything heading away from the port.
        …Maybe we ain’t that young anymore

          Out the port and down the A26. I was last went two years ago. There were migrants on both sides of the motorway; they were not fussy about stopping in-bound or out-bound cars and there were no police around.

            You'll be fine.

            Biggest thing to remember is that France have changed their national speed limit on single carriageway roads to 80kph (50mph)

              Don't forget your GB sticker etc, for on-the-spot fines;

                Did the tunnel last year on a motorbike and didn't see anyone whatsoever.

                  It's also illegal to use a device which reports where the speed cameras are now.

                    Was there the other day, nada...The only migrants you'll see are middle class Brits escaping to greener pastures :-)
                    Brexit is having a wee in the middle of the room at a house party because nobody is talking to you, and then complaining about the smell.
