£290k would get you a semi 2.5 bed in better area of the town.

Milk is sold per pint and most retailers organise the bottling.

Milk is about £1 a pint in the shops yet £1.65 for 4 pints.

remember its 1.75 pints per litre so 39.43/1.75=22.53p per pint so 500% profit margin on a pint. only 100% profit on 4 pints.

retailers have a lot of bottle!
Milk is a bad example as it is a well known loss leader and wouldn't be VATable. Supermarket cartels are also on the top of the authorities watchlist.

Principle still applies though. Companies can't just charge what they want because someone will undercut them.

          3 bed terrace £110k

3 bedroom terraced house for sale in Fountain Street, Queensbury, Bradford, West Yorkshire, BD13 (rightmove.co.uk)

That's not a particularly terrible area either. It's not great mind, but not terrible.

            • A beautiful 3 bedroom terrace property.
            • Low maintenance front garden.
I think they need to recheck what beautiful means also love the low maintenance front garden which is basically pavement slabs and the 80sqm on three bloody levels...but I digress, this would probably cost around £300k+ in this area, so still a win.

milk is a great example as there is price transparency.

500% markup is hardly a loss leader.

It's not a 500% markup. The cost you have stated is only the price paid to farmers. Processing, bottling, transport etc all have to be added on top.

Supermarkets have notoriously poor margins, talking like 3%. They aren't making 500% on bloody milk.

There was a house in Port Talbot for £60k.

But who in their right mind would want to live in Port Talbot?

The steelworks was the inspiration for Blade Runner. .
