The US system is geared to ensuring doctors don't get sued.

True re US, but I've heard testimony from doctors that are specifically hired to trawl through patients medical records to find any reason to deny payment for treatments.

Not where I live either. In fact in all the various London boroughs I've lived in it comes under the local council not the NHS.

Likewise public health now comes under each council, which is a fecking mess as the provision for healthcare covers a wider area than local council level.

Lol, a decent person who doesnt like to see poor public services, bloated inefficient services, workers who couldnt care less, and money pissed down the drain. Who wants to see our people get decent services like they do in many other countries, and not the shambles we have here.

As a man you should be ashamed to say that mental health care is not life threatening. Are you really not aware that suicide is the biggest killer of men under 45?

Not forgetting those under (don't) care in the community, who then go onto kill innocent bystanders.

MD has been banging on about the poor state of NHS facilities for the mentall ill for years in Private Eye. The whole area is underfunded. But there's no (ahem) magic money tree. Services are rationed. Sexy things like anti-cancer drugs that give a very small number of people 3 months more life seem to be preferable to the general public.

There's more psychiatrists than GPs in Switzerland. (At least it seems that way). I put it down to the Swiss being a bunch of loony foreigners.

Maybe but difficult to take anyone seriously that uses terms like 'sub 3rd world' and the like. The same people that say that tend to put every public sector service in as a job lot and akin them to something else as daft. Hardly a stable platform for discussion.

The NHS is great - if you need something urgently.

Apart from that they are rubbish.

In Wales most of the money is spent on promoting the Welsh language. Never mind the NHS, dental care etc.

And what money is left is spent on South Wales where the assembly is. North and mid Wales can go swivel....

NHS is good at saving lives. In fact the best in the world. Heart attacks, cancers, brain tumours etc you can get the best care for next to no expense.

But surely mental health and cold and cough are not life threatening ? Why do you need an emergency appointment for that ?? What your son needs is warm care and love at home, not a shrink talking to him.
