Reminds of a conversation I had with a Jehovah's Witness who came knocking on my door a few weeks ago. He too claimed that he was a scholar (particularly in Hebrew and the Bible). He surmised by saying Jesus never claimed to be divine. I just shut the door on him. So much for his studying.
Where specifically does Jesus mention his divinity?

One of the clearest of the many times Jesus claimed to be God is His use of the divine name, “I AM.”
This divine name was told to Moses, when he met with God (who appeared as a burning bush).
And God said to Moses, “I AM WHO I AM.”
Popeye often used to say "I yam what I am and that's all that I yam". I think this proves conclusively that Popeye was god.

Umm, the problem with this is that Jesus was a member of the Essene sect (kind of a strict branch of old Judaism if you aren't aware), and to proclaim himself as being divine would have gone against all the principles of his own faith - remember, and it's important, that Jesus was not a Christian, though the way some believers talk you'd think that they believe that somehow he was. The Essenes believed in "righteousness towards humanity" and the preservation of the soul. They were more like modern day Buddhists than Christians, and that is why Jesus would never have claimed himself to be divine.

This doesn't preclude of course that the people who edited the bible in later years didn't decide to add that little "fact" in for their own purposes...

Just going from those quotes from the book (I am being very charitable in not assuming them to be very selective) it does look like crap. What is the relevance of trying to judge if Christ said he was god or not, the question that really matters is "was he?"

Start at Genesis 1:1 and read all the way through to Revelation 22:21.

There won't be too much about Jesus (divine or otherwise) before Matthew 1:1 though will there?
