For Arc welding you require a very dark mask otherwise you'll have "sand in your eyes".I'm alright JackComment

Actually, he said it's like having sand in your eyes constantly for three days.Originally posted by BlasterBates View PostFor Arc welding you require a very dark mask otherwise you'll have "sand in your eyes".Comment

And the protection for MIG and TIG is even darker than for manual arc welding since there's no flux to reduce the incredible glare.

I have seen auto darkening welding helmets. It saves accidentally poking the cat's bum hole with a welding rod.Originally posted by zeitghost View PostAnd the protection for MIG and TIG is even darker than for manual arc welding since there's no flux to reduce the incredible glare.

Got one (from Lidl) though I haven't got around to trying it out yet.Originally posted by Paddy View PostI have seen auto darkening welding helmets. It saves accidentally poking the cat's bum hole with a welding rod.
It's got a photocell so doesn't need batteries or anything, generates the darkening voltage from the light of the arc.
So it's green too.Comment
