Just want to point out that no-one has yet changed the EU immigration rules. I would put this down to a recovery in the rest of the EU.

Comments I have seen suggest a combination of a) EU migrants returning home as they have earnt good money here and the economic conditions are brighter back at home, b) general anxiety about residency status, c) feelings of no longer being welcome.

Generally though inflation is still higher than wage increases so all it is doing is improving a drop in wages, that wouldn't have occurred if the pound hadn't fallen. So basically the economy is slowing but the drop in the income isn't as bad for those who are in the private sector.

Earnings are now only 1.8% higher than a year ago - the slowest rate of increase since late 2014 - which has contributed to a cut in real incomes because the rate of inflation has been higher.

Of course if companies can't recruit this will lead to an even greater drop in economic activity and will lead to lower tax receipts, so requiring increased taxes.

Meanwhile Sainsburys has brought in the management consultants McKinsey to cut the number of staff.

I guess they didn't want their shop floor staff taking better paid jobs at Aldi or Lidl.

indeed I am seeing fewer Eastern European staff around.

Talking to my British plasterer today (who turned up on time & did a good job, he also pays tax) the site work has disappeared as foreign workers are willing to do it for a lot less.
