Will this be the first really tactical election ...
That's not LibDem policy.
I don't think anyone believes that's possible, or even wise.
But I do think letting the Tory loons decide on the Brexit outcome is immensely dangerous for all but the very rich.
Unless you basically want to get closer to a feudal state again.
It's not really in the interests in the EU to have Britain back in. It needs to spend the rest of its life serving as an example of what happens when you leave.

An embarassing u-turn probably serves that purpose.
In a way it's a shame that not even the LibDems will stand up and say cancel Brexit. If all 48% voted for them that that would surely be a landslide victory, and they'd have a mandate for it too.
Indeed so its possible to transform the party and expel the racists.
UKIP could be a valid contender if they do it right.
They don't want to which is sad.
They could expel the racist members and candidates but not the racist supporters. And I'm not convinced there isn't a core of racism within the party ethos whatever they say. All their main people just come across as "off" somehow, like even when they say something you agree with you feel a bit dirty
That said they're still a 1-policy party who has 'won' what they existed for. Their own leader said as much.

I was hoping they could shake that off.
They had potential but they have wasted it.
UKIP will die. Probably for the best.
They could of driven through Brexit reforms as suggested and helped the government implement sensible new one country strategies.
