I'm with you on that one, but everyone seems to be sold on the stupid cloud idea. There's one upside (cost) and a gazillion reasons to avoid like the plague.

Surely their systems are duel redundant?

The cloud system I'm using at the minute keeps data in two different EU countries.

Stek could go for it big time and get a pair of load balanced cardboard boxes.
By putting one in the Shed at bottom of Garden he will get a bit of site resilience as well so win win.

He would just need to be careful to ensure he alternates the targeted 'lobbing in' of each receipt to maintain an equal loading obviously.

Yes, only one region affected. But many companies are too tight to use multiple AWS regions, or haven't worked out how to do it because nobody's posted the answer to Stack Overflow yet
